As at today, Sunday 18th of January, Burkina Faso Security forces are still actively searching for any surviving gunmen responsible for an attack on a hotel which left at least 29 people dead.
The sad incident, which occurred on Friday night, hit the Splendid Hotel a
location popular with tourists and United Nations staff. The group Al Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Burkinabe soldiers, backed up by French Special Forces, eventually retook the hotel. It is not yet clear how many of the attackers were killed.  Thus far, three bodies have been identified according to media reports.
After the attacks the country declared three days of mourning. The incident has raised fears amongst Burkinabes that their country may become a new target for the rising jihadist movements across West Africa.
